Balee Pongklad was born in Bangkok, Thailand. His high school music fraternity had impact on his earliest music interest. Balee seemed set on becoming an architect after he finished high school. The years of subconscious exposure eventually kicked in, however, and after being urged to pursue music studies at the college level by his father, he firmly decided on the life of a composer.
Balee has received awards and recognitions from such notable organizations as the Society of Composer, The United States Army Band “Pershing Own” and Harvey Phillips Award for Excellence in Composition. His chamber work In (out of) Sync for euphonium, oboe, and piano has been featured in the CD album “Snapshots” by Demondrae Thurman. Additionally, his solo violin Ride has been publicly performed throughout the United States and released on the CD album “Early Musings ” by Davis Brooks, former violinist with the New York Chamber Symphony.
Balee earned his D.M.A. in composition at the University of Alabama, M.A. in music composition at San Francisco State University and B.A. in music at Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. His primary composition teachers include Ronald Caltabiano, Richard Festinger and C.P. First.
