Aaron Tindall of Lapeer, Michigan is the instructor of tuba and euphonium at Eastern Michigan University. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Tuba Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Master’s of Music degree in Euphonium Performance with Distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England, UK, and a Bachelor of Music Performance degree on both the Euphonium and Tuba from The Pennsylvania State University. He has additional Doctoral studies at Indiana University. His principal teachers have included Velvet Brown, Mel Culbertson, Warren Deck, Mike Dunn, Steven Mead, and Daniel Perantoni. He has also studied with Roger Bobo, and Dr. Benjamin Pierce. He has served on the faculty at Penn State University as a visiting professor, and throughout the year is a visiting tutor for tuba and euphonium at the Conservatoire National de Region in Perpignan, France.
With his orchestral playing described as “a rock-solid foundation” and his solo playing depicted as being “remarkable for both its solid power and its delicacy”, Aaron is an active performer and frequently appears as a soloist and guest artist with orchestras, wind bands, brass bands, and at conservatories/universities throughout the United States and abroad. He currently holds the orchestral tuba fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival, and is a founding member of the Eufonix quartet. He was a Guest Artist at the 2006 and 2010 International Tuba and EuphoniumConference, performed in England with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band and has collaborated as substitute/additional tubist with orchestras such as the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and the New World Symphony. His solo playing has been heard on NPR’s “Performance Today” radio show.
Aaron was recently a finalist in the prestigious 2010 Concert Artist Guild Competition, the winner of 2010 Aspen Music Festival Concerto Competition, 2008 Indiana University Concerto Competition, and the 2005 MTNA National Collegiate Solo Brass Artist Competition. He has been a prizewinner at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in 2009 (Bronze Medal) and the WAMSO Minnesota Orchestra Solo Competition (2nd prize), as well as a finalist at various international solo competitions.
